Mayor Joe Dillard announces the retirement of Amon Tilley

Mountain Home Mayor Joe Dillard announced Monday the retirement of the City’s Street Director Amon Tilley. Mayor Dillard said he accepted Tilley’s resignation date of May 31st, saying Tilley will have served the City of Mountain Home 21 days shy of 34 years. Mayor Dillard says he has done an outstanding job and has had many accomplishments.Tilley says he’s enjoyed his time working with the City and reflects on some of the projects he’s been a part of since 1983.

Tilley said he’s seen a lot of changes in Mountain Home. He was raised in the area and worked in construction before he joined the City. Mayor Dillard says he’s worked with the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department on maintaining area bridges and projects such as the most recent dedication of Highway 201 South and College Street.Other notable accomplishments, according to Dillard, are assisting with the 2008 tornado cleanup in Gassville, building a recycling bin for the Baxter Day Service Center and removing buildings on the west side of town square. He says Tilley was instrumental in the development of the Mountain Home Veteran’s Plaza and worked diligently with inmates of the North Central Unit of the Arkansas State Prison at Calico Rock on various cleaning projects across town.In the same press release Mayor Dillard announced the selection of Arnold Knox as the new Street Director. Tilley says Knox is a good choice.

Knox worked with the City of Mountain Home previously as City Engineer and Assistant Street Superintendent and has served on the City Council for two years as well as the Planning Commission.When Tilley was asked what he was going to do with his spare time he mused saying he wasn’t going to have any. He said he plans to take care of his farm and do some fishing.
