Mountain Home, Norfork student art winners recognized

Art students from both the Mountain Home High Career Academies and the Norfork High School have received recognition in the Arkansas Young Artist Competition.Mountain Home students received 20 awards for their art works, and one senior was awarded a scholarship from the Memphis Art Institute. Four Mountain Home students were elected as state officers for the 2017-2018 school year.

Mountain Home students receiving awards were Carley Wallace taking honorable mention in oil, Sierra Day captured fourth place in acrylic, Amber Bill took first place in tempera, second place in watercolor, and honorable mention in scratchboard/silverpoint,Samantha Wycoff received fourth place in watercolor, honorable mention in pencil/graphite and honorable mention in on-site: marker/pen/gel pen and Myca Treat was the Memphis Art Institute Scholarship Winner,received second place in watercolor, first place in chalk pastel,second place for sketchbooks,first place in fiber arts, and fourth place for on-site: pencil/graphite.

Other award winners were Addie Persenaire taking second place in mixed media/low relief, Anna Rogero for first place in printmaking–relief and third place for first year: charcoal, Meghan Gheery was awarded first place in charcoal/conte, Melissa Lewis won first place in chalk pastel, Savannah Barron received fourth place for first year pencil/graphite, and Aleks Dill captured third place for on-site: all dry color media.

Elected as state officers were Samantha Wycoff, first vice president; Anna Rogero, second vice president, Ashley Garrison, recording secretary; and Aleks Dill, reporter.

Seven Norfork High School students received recognition at the Young Artist Competition. Junior Makenzie Pennington won the Tempera-Realistic division and finished third in Mixed Media 2D-Expressive, junior Sydney Lawhorn was second in Oil Pastel Expressive, junior Marleigh Dodson took second place in Fiber Arts Batik-Realistic, senior Kelcy Acklin ended up second in Tempera-Abstract and Pen and Ink-Realistic and third in Fiber Arts-Expressive, junior Makayla Dwyer finished fourth in Mixed Media-Expressive and Chalk Paste-Abstract, senior Montana Greve was fourth in Pen and Ink-Abstract and received Honorable Mention in Fiber Arts Batik-Expressive, and junior Matty Dillard received Honorable Mention in Fiber Arts Batik-Realistic. In addition, Greve was also awarded the Memphis Scholarship.

Each student was allowed to submit up to five pieces of artwork.
