ASUMH Gaston Lecture Series presents Churchill: A One Man Play

The Gaston Lecture Series at Arkansas State University in Mountain Home will present Churchill: A One Man Play by Andrew Edlin Tuesday evening at 6 in the Ed Coulter Performing Arts Center at the Vada Sheid Community Development Center on the campus of the university. This performance is free and no tickets are required.

The production begins with Big Ben striking ten, and the first of many overhead images and a BBC broadcast set the scene for Edlin, as Churchill at age 80, pondering his future as Prime Minister. During the play Churchill reviews his life including his socialite mother and cold father; unhappy school years; army career and combat experience in Cuba, Africa, India and Europe during World War One and the center of events, as a member of Parliament. With World War Two approaching, Churchill, then the orator in the House of Commons, warns and leads the free world against Hitler and Nazi Germany.

Edlin, who is best known for his portrayal of Sir Winston Churchill, has performed in over 30 stage productions. He was born in Brighton, England, educated at Cranleigh School in Surrey and went on to Magdalen College, Oxford University, where he received a scholarship in history and graduated with degrees in psychology and philosophy. He moved to the United States in 1990 an resides in Fairfield, Iowa with his wife, Tena. The couple have two grown children.
