A Norfork High School student received recognition in Congressman Rick Crawford’s Congressional Art Competition. Junior Makenzie Pennington won the Congressional Art Award, “Best in Show,” with her colored pencil artwork titled “In Memory of the Fallen.”

Pennington’s drawing is among over 200 pieces of artwork from 20 school districts competing in Arkansas’s First Congressional District. A juried panel of professional artists chose the top three awards and several finalists in each media category, and Pennington’s artwork was selected among all first-place media award winners.

Pennington’s drawing will hang for a year in the Cannon House Office Building tunnel in the U.S. Capitol. In addition, she will receive free airfare to attend the national art reception in Washington, D.C., where an overall winner among all Congressional districts will be selected.

Other Norfork finalist art students were senior Montana Greve in the Batik category for “A Soldier’s Companion” and junior Matty Dillard in the Colored Pencil category for “Neglected Treasure.”
