A Mountain Home woman, 50-year-old Rachel A. Callaway, has been arrested and charged with theft by receiving and criminal attempt to commit forgery, both Class D felonies.

According to the arrest affidavit, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office received a report of breaking or entering, theft of property and forgery. The report stems from an incident at a business in Midway where a purse was taken from a vehicle parked near the store. The complainant reported the car could only been entered through the vehicle’s sunroof. The purse contained $500 in cash, driver’s license and credit cards, cellular telephone, and personal checks.

A short time after the theft was reported, the credit cards were used or were attempted to be used at two Gassville businesses.

Utilizing security video from one of the Gassville businesses, the investigating officer was able to identify the suspect.

Bond for Rachel Callaway was set at $5,000.00. She entered a plea of not guilty in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday and was ordered to reappear on May 4.
