Local rivers expected to go above flood stages

With the recent rainfall, three local rivers are in danger of going above flood stage.

A flood warning will be in effect for the White River at Calico Rock from Sunday morning to Wednesday morning. The river’s stage was 8 1/2 feet at 8:15 Saturday evening, but it’s expected to be near 32 feet by early Monday morning. The flood stage is 19 feet.
Impacts can be expected at 25 feet including the possibility of Izard County Road 157 being flooded downstream of Guion and backwater up Calico Creek in Calico Rock flooding Rand City Park. Homes in the floodplain of the river in Baxter and Izard Counties may be affected.
Major flooding is expected at 30 feet with most of the lower lying portions of the White River Valley from Norfork to Batesville to be affected. Homes along the river in Izard and Stone Counties can be affected.

A flood warning is also in effect for the Buffalo National River in St. Joe through Tuesday afternoon. The river’s stage was 11.4 feet at 7:45 Saturday evening, but it’s expected to rise to near 45 feet by Sunday afternoon. The flood stage for the Buffalo River is 27 feet. It has only crested over 45 feet at the U.S. Highway 65 gage five times since 1915.

The North Fork of the White River has already passed its flood stage of 20 feet near Tecumseh. The river had risen to 29.4 feet by 7:45 Saturday evening and is expected to get near 31 feet around midnight, but it should fall below flood stage by late Sunday evening.
