MH boys win conference tourney opener, girls lose

The Mountain Home High School baseball team has clinched a bid to the Class 6A State Tournament. The Bombers went to Searcy Friday to begin the 6A-East Conference Tournament, and they upset the second-seeded Lions 7-2.
Marshall Roberson picked up the win on the mound as he pitched 5 2/3 innings, struck out five batters and gave up five hits and one earned run, and Austin Mize was credited with the save as he went the final 1 1/3 innings and gave up one hit. Offensively for Mountain Home, Will Gross led the way with two hits and four RBIs, and Ben Henderson added two singles and scored three runs.
The Bombers improve to 9-15 on the season, and they’ll return to the road Tuesday for their conference semifinal game against the winner of Saturday’s contest between Marion and West Memphis.

Mountain Home’s softball team did not fare as well as they also went to searcy for their opener in the 6A-East Conference Tournament. The Lady Bombers fell to the Lady Lions 4-0. Maly Tabor led the way with a base hit. Mountain Home drops to 4-14 on the season, and they’ll return to Freedom Field at McClain Park Tuesday to play the elimination game against West Memphis. A trip to the state tournament will be on the line.
