The heavy rainfall has continued to cause dangerous situations for Twin Lakes Area residents as a flash flood emergency was issued by the National Weather Service office in North Little Rock. A flash flood warning for a dam floodgate release is in effect for east central Baxter County until 1:15 as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers begins a historic release of Norfork Dam’s spillway gates.

The Corps’ Little Rock District reports releases of 27,000 cubic feet per second will begin because of ten inches of rain falling Saturday within Norfork Lake’s drainage basin to begin, and it was later raised to 49,600 cubic feet per second. The release will be a combination of the 12 gates to to two feet in addition to 6,000 cubic feet per second released through two turbine generators. Corps of Engineers Mountain Home Project Office Deputy Operations Manager Mark Case says there is historic flooding on Norfork Lake, particularly in the south Missouri watershed.
