25 area teams begin regional tournament play

It’s a busy Friday on the local sports scene as 11 baseball teams and 14 softball teams begin regional play.

In baseball, the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament gets underway at Armorel. Norfork takes the field first against Bay at ten a.m., Viola meets Rector at 12:30, and Mammoth Spring faces Ridgefield Christian at 3:00.
Lead Hill is the designated host school for the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament held at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. Omaha and Jasper get started at 10:00, Lead Hill takes on Deer at 3:00, and Bruno-Pyatt will be paired with Alpena at 5:30.
Salem will be at Palestine-Wheatley High School to begin the Class 2A North Regional Tournament. The Greyhounds are scheduled to play McCrory at 12:30.
Manila is the site for the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament. Melbourne will be matched up with Corning at 12:30, Mountain View meets Riverside at 3:00, and Valley Springs faces the host Lions at 5:30.

On the softball side, the Class 2A North Regional Tournament will be played at Palestine-Wheatley. Salem gets the action started at 10:00 against Carlisle, and Cotter takes on Hazen at 3:00.
Armorel will host the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament. Norfork has the opener at 10:00 against the host Lady Tigers, Viola plays Rector at 12:30, Calico Rock will be paired with Maynard at 3:00, and Izard County meets Bay at 5:30.
The Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison is the location for the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament with Lead Hill as the designated host. Bruno-Pyatt and Omaha get underway at 10:00, Lead Hill will be matched up with Decatur at 12:30, and Rural Special faces Jasper at 5:00.
The Class 3A Region 3 Tournament will be held at Manila. Melbourne takes on Corning at 12:30, Mountain View plays Walnut Ridge at 3:00, and Valley Springs meets Rivercrest at 5:30.
