Releases from Norfork Dam spillway decreasing

The Little Rock District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will decrease releases from Norfork Dam to 24,000 cubic feet beginning Friday evening at 6.

The release will be a combination of the 12 spillway gates opened to one and one-half feet releasing 18,500 cubic feet per second in addition to about 5,500 cubic feet per second being released through two turbine generators.

Saturday morning at 6, the release from Norfork Lake will again be lowered to 19,000 cubic feet per second. The release will be a combination of the 12 spillway gates opened to one foot releasing 13,300 cubic feet per second in addition to about 5,700 cubic feet per second being released through two turbine generators.

Gauges used by hydraulic engineers to monitor inflow into Norfork Lake were washed away during the April 28-29 rain event which makes monitoring inflow into the lake more difficult.

Although the National Weather Service is predicting dry conditions through May 10, future rainfall may cause the Corps to increase releases from Norfork Lake.
