Trucker convicted in Arkansas’ largest-ever meth seizure

(AP) A federal jury has convicted a California man of a
drug charge linked to Arkansas’ largest-ever seizure of methamphetamine in the state.

Federal prosecutors say the jury convicted 56-year-old Javier Leon of Moreno Valley, California, of possessing with the intent to distribute methamphetamine. Leon’s conviction came Thursday after a four-day trial in Little Rock.

Prosecutors say Leon worked as a truck driver for a furniture shipping company. He was pulled over in March 2015 on Interstate 40 in Lonoke, about 20 miles east of Little Rock. Prosecutors say authorities seized more than 260 pounds of methamphetamine _ worth millions of dollars _ from the back of Leon’s tractor-trailer.

Leon will be sentenced at a later date. He faces anywhere from 10 years to life in prison.
