A pair of local baseball teams competed Saturday in the semifinals of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at Armorel.
Viola ended up losing the first game of the day. The Longhorns fell to Bay by a final of 5-1.
Viola’s opponent in Monday’s third place game will be Mammoth Spring. The Bears lost to Armorel 5-3. Mammoth Spring drops to 20-6 on the season.
Two area schools were in action in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison.
Lead Hill advanced to Monday’s championship game. The Tigers routed Alpena 17-2.
Lead Hill’s next opponent will be Shirley. Omaha was edged out by the Blue Devils 12-11. The Eagles will take on Alpena Monday for third place.
Three area teams watched their season come to an end in the first round of the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament at Manila. Melbourne fell to Corning 6-5, Mountain View was doubled up by Riverside 8-4, and Valley Springs lost to Manila 8-0.

It was tough outing for Viola. The Lady Longhorns ended up falling to the host Lady Tigers 1-0.
Calico Rock will be Armorel’s opponent in Monday’s title game. The Lady Pirates squeaked by Izard County 2-1. The Lady Cougars will play Viola for third place.

Rural Special fell just short of advancing to the championship game. The Lady Rebels lost to Shirley 16-15.
Omaha will be the Lady Blue Devils’ opponent in Monday’s final. The Lady Eagles beat up on Decatur 21-10. Rural Special will play the Lady Bulldogs in the third place game.
Salem fell in the semifinals of the Class 2A North Regional Tournament at Palestine-Wheatley High School. The Lady Greyhounds lost to East Poinsett County 13-9. Salem will play Hazen on Monday for third place.

Melbourne secured a state tournament bid after topping Corning 6-2. The Lady Bearkatz will face Clinton in Monday’s semifinals.
Mountain View’s season came to an end in the next game. The Lady Yellowjackets lost to Walnut Ridge 7-1.
Valley Springs was also one and done in the tournament. The Lady Tigers fell to Rivercrest 10-0.
