Friday schedule includes state openers for MH baseball, soccer

Baseball, softball and soccer make up the local Friday schedule as state tournament play resumes.

The Mountain Home High School baseball team will play its first game in the Class 6A State Tournament at Benton. After having a first round bye, the Bombers will begin in the quarterfinals against Sheridan.
Mountain Home comes into the tournament with a record of 10-16 and the number two seed in the East. The Bombers’ last game was Saturday in the championship game of the 6A-East Conference Tournament where they fell to Jonesboro 8-0. Sheridan is the third-seeded team out of the West. The Yellowjackets beat up Searcy Thursday in the first round.
The first pitch is scheduled for has been moved to around 2:30.

Viola will play its third game in the Class 1A State Tournament at Taylor Field in Pine Bluff. The Longhorns will meet Dierks in the quarterfinals at 2:30.

Calico Rock’s softball team will compete in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A State Tournament at Pine Bluff Regional Park. The Lady Pirates face Woodlawn at noon.

The Mountain Home High School soccer teams will be in Siloam Springs Friday. The Bombers and Lady Bombers will play their openers in the Class 6A State Tournament at Panther Stadium after having a first round bye.
Mountain Home’s girls will take the field first with a record of 12-6-1 as they take on Benton. The Lady Bombers have a number two seed after losing the title game of the 6A-East Conference Tournament Saturday at Searcy. Benton is the third-seeded team from the West. The Lady Panthers shut out Little Rock Hall 14-0 Thursday in the first round. Kickoff is rescheduled for four p.m.
The Mountain Home boys take their 16-0 record up against El Dorado. The Bombers have one of the top seeds after winning the 6A-East Conference Tournament by getting past Hall in the championship game. El Dorado is the number four seed in the West. The Wildcats blanked Pine Bluff 7-0 in the opening round. Gametime is set for 6:00.

The Harrison girls’ soccer team returns to Nettleton High School in Jonesboro for its quarterfinal game of the Class 5A State Tournament. The Lady Goblins will be paired with Pulaski Academy at 2:00.
