With just five of the eight Mountain Home City Council members present Thursday evening, two ordinances were placed on their first reading.

Attorney Robert Clark presented an ordinance to amend an area for rezoning to council members Dave Almond, Jennifer Baker, Carl Graves, Rick Pierce and Don Webb regarding a proposed residential development.

Tom Embach of Leisure Homes Corporation of Mountain Home is proposing to construct a subdivision of both single family homes and condominiums with age restrictions for those over 55 years of age on approximately 30 acres.

The property is located on the north side of Sixteenth Street at its intersection with Laurel Road.

Residents from that area were present at the council meeting with questions about the proposed development, along with a number of supporters.

The request is to rezone the property from Residential R-1 and R-1A to R-4.

The council also heard the first reading of a proposed ordinance from attorney Ted Sanders requesting to amend property at 810 Sanford Lane between the Town East Shopping Center and a residential area from Residential R-1 to Commercial C-3.

Both ordinances will be up for their second reading at the council’s next meeting on June 1.
