Baxter Regional Medical Center has been awarded the Site Excellence Award from AR SAVES. The award came at the eighth annual Arkansas SAVES Conference held last week in Hot Springs for being “above the rest” in the care of stroke patients. BRMC is one of four hospitals selected as winners of this year’s Site Excellence Award. Sites were chosen based on exceptional performance as a stroke ready hospital. Considerations included staff training, exceeding programmatic expectations and community outreach.

AR SAVES, Stroke Assistance through Virtual Emergency Support, is a telemedicine program that links emergency room doctors from 51 sites across Arkansas to a stroke neurologist via a live, two-way video, so that even patients in rural areas, or hospitals with no stroke neurologist available, can receive care for strokes 24-hours a day. Led by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, the AR SAVES program works to ensure that patients can receive the time-sensitive care required for good outcomes.

Statistics show that Arkansans are at a higher risk of death from stroke than residents of most other states.
