William Newman, who is a current inmate in the state prison system, pled guilty to drug-related charge during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday and was sentenced to 10 years in prison with credit for time served.

The 29-year-old Newman admitted that he had drugs in his possession, including two vials of liquid morphine and one vial of liquid Ativan, as well as various items of drug paraphernalia, when a car in which he was a passenger was stopped on September 7th, 2016.

According to court records, when a Baxter County Deputy Sheriff stopped the vehicle in which Newman was riding for a traffic infraction, Newman initially gave the deputy a false name. When his true identity was confirmed, it was determined that he had several outstanding warrants and was also wanted on a parole violation.

Newman was arrested and booked into the Baxter County jail in the early morning hours of September 7th last year. He was returned to prison on an earlier drug-related conviction and is an inmate in the North Central Unit of the state prison system at Calico Rock.
