Joshua Lane of Gamaliel was sentenced to 12 months in prison during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The 36-year-old Lane was arrested May 10th after a woman called the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office reporting she had gone to Lane’s residence in the Gamaliel area to retrieve some of her belongings.

The woman reported that Lane had refused her access to the residence, had brandished a handgun and had thrown what were described as baseball-size rocks at the woman and a person accompanying her. The woman had taken a picture with her cell phone of Lane in possession of the weapon.

When deputies arrived, they reported hearing a gunshot. Lane was ordered out of the house by the deputies and he complied. There was no evidence found to indicate that Lane had fired at the deputies. He said he had shot toward the woods thinking friends of the female and her companion might be coming to harm him.

Deputies found that Lane had been convicted of felony crimes in two Missouri counties. Those convictions would prohibit him from possessing firearms in Arkansas.
