The construction of a corporate hangar with a price tag of $600,000 has been approved by the Baxter County Airport Commission. The approval came in a special Commission meeting last week.

Baxter County Airport manager Kathy Frederick says the proposal came on behalf of a subsidiary of Auto Services Company, Incorporated for construction of an approximately 12,000-square-foot hangar on property owned by Baxter County at the Midway airport.

Frederick says Auto Services Company has applied for grants to assist in the payment of the construction and is agreeing to pay any monies in excess of the grants for the completion of the hanger.

Under the proposal, ASC wishes to enter into a 15-year lease with Baxter County, renewable for an additional 15 years. After the expiration of the lease, the structure would revert to Baxter County.

Commissioners voting in favor of the lease were Cameron Davis, Nick Goodrich, Greg Mills and Susan Stockton. Members Mark Carney and Rob Finley recused themselves from the vote and member Danny Ward was absent.

The Commission also approved the use of the terminal lobby and apron areas for an open house to be held in July or August by the Twin Lakes Flying Club.
