Credit: Jay BlakesbergFounding Grateful Dead singer/guitarist Bob Weir will help celebrate what would have been his late band mate Jerry Garcia‘s 75th birthday by headlining a special concert on August 4 at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado. Weir will be accompanied by his solo group The Campfire Band at the show, which also will feature a musical collective dubbed The Jerry Garcia 75th Birthday Band that will include longtime Jerry Garcia Band members Melvin Seals, Jackie Labranch and Gloria Jones, ex-Allman Brothers Band bassist Oteil Burbridge and others.

The Campfire Band is made up mostly of musicians who contributed to Weir’s 2016 solo album, Blue Mountain. The group includes RatDog guitarist Steve Kimock and two members of the indie-rock group The National — bassist Scott Devendorf and drummer Bryan Devendorf.
Weir’s currently on tour in the U.S. with Dead & Company, which also features Grateful Dead drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, pop-blues star John Mayer, and Burbridge. The trek winds down with a July 1 show at Chicago’s Wrigley Field.
Bob also will take part in multiple performances at the 2017 Lockn’ Music Festival in Arrington, Virgina. He’ll join Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh August 25 and will team up with roots rockers The Avett Brothers on August 27.
Incidentally, Garcia’s actual 75th birthday would have been this August 1. Jerry died August 9, 1995, at age 53.
