Efforts by Governor Asa Hutchinson to increase efficiency in state government has led to legislation that combines three state boards charged with oversight in the funeral or death care profession.

The current chair of the Arkansas Cemetery Board, Bill Booker, president of Roller Funeral Homes of Little Rock, says while most new laws go into effect immediately or with the beginning of the next fiscal year, this move doesn’t take place until July 1, 2018.

Booker speculates the somewhat unusual timing in the delay for implementation of the new law until July 2018 may be attributed to the learning curve for both those in the death care profession and those in the Arkansas Insurance Department.
