The Gainesville Volunteer Fire Department has responded to its first call after acquiring a pumper truck and equipment from the City of Willard less than two weeks after an early morning fire destored their station and equipment.

City Clerk Lisa Goodnight says the department purchased the 1991 Spartan E-One pumper truck, and equipment last Saturday when firemen traveled to Willard for training on the engine. She says while Gainesville purchased the engine, it came with a substantial amount of valuable equipment including hoses and connectors that generally are not included with a pumper truck acquisition.

Goodnight says from the tragedy that destroyed the station and its contents on May 30 the brotherhood of firemen from all across the country have contacted the Gainesville Volunteer Fire Department helping firemen to locate needed items.

She says the cause of the fire is undetermined and the department is still waiting on the final insurance report and settlement before the next step in rebuilding can be taken.
