The Baxter/Marion County Farm Service Agency has been approved to hold sign-ups for the Emergency Conservation Program for damage occurring during the recent flooding. Farm and ranch producers who have suffered losses from the disaster can request assistance through the Wednesday deadline.

Farm and ranches suffering severe damage may be eligible for assistance under the Emergency Conservation Program administered by the Farm Service Agency if the damage is so costly to rehabilitate that Federal assistance is needed to return the land to productive agricultural use. Eligibility also depends on if the damage is unusual and not the type frequently recurring in the same area, if it affects the productive capacity of the farmland or if it impairs or endangers the land.

A producer qualifying for Emergency Conservation Program assistance may receive cost-share up to 75 percent of the eligible cost of restoration. No producer is eligible for more than $200,000 cost sharing per disaster occurrence, and the minimum qualifying cost for restoration is $1,000. Measures eligible include removing debris from farmland, restoring permanent fences, grading, shaping and releveling or other similar measures.
