The Mountain Home Police Department has taken possesion of six vehicles for its fleet, according to Chief Carry Manuel. While the vehicles are new to the local police department, Manuel says they are low-mileage used cars. He says four of the vehicles are outfitted and on the street, while the other two arrived last week and are being prepared for department use.

Manuel says while this is not the first time for the department to purchase low-mileage used vehicles, the most recent purchase is the largest amount secured at any time previously.
He says the vehicles were purchased for $1,500 each, a good price compared to the cost of one new vehicle.

Manuel said under tight budgets like the current one new vehicles are slow coming into the fleet.
He says while looking for other alternatives to meet the department’s needs, the opportunity to secure the six vehicles was discovered.

Manuel says two of the new to the department vehicles will be assigned to the School Resource Officer program, with the others being used for patrol.
