Pangle to receive Teacher of Year award

Yellville-Summit third-grade math teacher Marilyn Pangle will be one of the top items on the agenda when the Arkansas Rural Education Association meets on July 10 for its summer conference.   Pangle will receive the association’s Teacher of the Year award for the northern tier of Arkansas, along with a $1,000 cash award.

Pangle begins her 17th year in the classroom in August teaching mathematics. It is an area of study she says she struggle with as a student.

Pangle was nominated for the Teacher of the Year award by her principal, Calvin Mallett.

While this is her first statewide award, she’s no stranger to KTLO, Classic Hits, and The Boot listeners, having been selected KTLO’s Teacher of The Week. She has also received the Southshore Foundation Teacher of the Year and Mid-Marion County Rotary Teacher of the Year awards.

Pangle also serves as assistant federal program coordinator. She has chaired AdvancEd processes, supervised student interns, served as mentor teacher, and presented staff development, but she says her greatest contributions come from the students with whom she works. One student told his parents that she had no favorites—all students are her favorites.

The Arkansas Rural Education Association is a statewide organization that according to its Website promotes quality experiences and opportunities for all of Arkansas’ rural students to enable them to compete in a diverse global community.
