Courtesy of Rock & Roll Hall of FameA new Rock & Roll Hall of Fame exhibition called “The Power of Rock Experience” will officially open at the Cleveland museum this Saturday, July 1. The three-part exhibit showcases historic performances and other memorable moments at Rock Hall induction ceremonies, and is highlighted by a short movie that was the final film from late Academy Award-winning director Jonathan Demme.
The first part of “The Power of Rock Experience” offers visitors an introductory video presentation on a state-of-the-art digital screen. The exhibit continues in a new Rock Hall venue called the Connor Theater, where Demme’s film will be shown. The 12-minute flick will be presented on multiple moving screens and features footage from various induction events, including appearances by Mick Jagger, Stevie Wonder, Chuck Berry, Bruce Springsteen, U2, Joan Jett, Metallica, Tina Turner, Prince and many other legends.
Enhancing the experience are various pieces of rock memorabilia featured in the film, including clothing items worn by Berry and Prince, Metallica frontman James Hetfield‘s guitar and Talking Heads member Tina Weymouth‘s bass.
The final part of the exhibit features interactive “Say It Loud” booths, where visitors can share their own rock-music memories while answering interview questions presented via pre-recorded videos by Alice Cooper, Smokey Robinson, The Mamas & the Papas‘ Michelle Phillips, The Supremes‘ Mary Wilson and ex-Deep Purple bassist Glenn Hughes, among others. The interviews can be shared on social media outlets.
The new exhibit and theater are part of a multi-year renovation project involving the Rock Hall that also includes a redesigned atrium, an outdoor performance stage and a new café.
