Several calls have come into KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot news questioning whether any sort of debris pick up has been scheduled across Baxter County or the City of Mountain Home. A line of severe weather swept through the Twin Lakes Area shortly after 1:00 Friday afternoon bringing with it high winds and leaving behind downed trees and power lines. Nothing is planned for the City of Mountain Home or for Baxter County, however Gassville Mayor Jeff Braim says they are planning a pick up for Gassville residents.

Braim says any questions Gassville residents may have will be answered by calling 435-6439.

Mountain Home Mayor Joe Dillard says he has made an assessment of the area and doesn’t believe there is enough debris to justify a city-sponsored cleanup. He says although there were downed trees, the locations are in isolated areas.

Baxter County Judge Mickey Pendergrass says road crews worked to open all roads by dark Friday. He says the only time the county would offer services, outside getting county roads clear, would be in an emergency situation such as the devastating ice storm of 2009. Pendergrass says as long as there isn’t a burn ban in the county, those outside the city limits are allowed to burn their debris.

Mountain Home Fire Department Inspection Department head Captain Gary Pyszka says a city ordinance allows open burning of smaller leaves and debris as long as the burning isn’t a persistent offense to neighbors and doesn’t create a fire or safety hazard to surrounding property. For larger trees and limbs a permit to burn is a possibility. For more information call the Mountain Home Fire Department during regular business hours at 870-425-2611. Permits are approved on a case-by-case basis only.

All burning has to take place during daylight hours, only, in less than five mile-per-hour winds. It should take place at least 25 feet from any structure and should be constantly supervised by a competent person 16-years-old or older.

Dillard suggests utilizing a local lawn service to get rid of larger limbs. Methvin Sanitation offers
a residential pickup for city customers for certain yard waste. A green tag can be purchased at the water department, on College Street, for $1 a tag. Yard waste should then be set out the same day as the customer’s regular trash pickup.
