Mikel Short of Midway was given six years in prison during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday after pleading guilty to drug-related charges filed against him.

Most of the charges the 45-year-old Short faced stemmed from compliance visits to his residence by probation and parole officers made because Short was then on probation from an earlier conviction.

During the visits, officers reported finding drugs, a set of digital scales, a glass smoking pipe and several hundred plastic bags known to be used to sell methamphetamine and marijuana, according to court records.

In one of the visits, Cynthia Piatt, a woman identified as Short’s long-term, live-in girlfriend, was found to be in possession of almost $4,900. Short was found to have slightly more $1,100. Officers noted that neither Short nor Piatt were known to be employed at the time.

Short was also charged with exposing a child living in the home to methamphetamine.

During the same session of Circuit Court Thursday, Piatt pled guilty to charges against her and was given 10 years probation.
