The former Beatles drummer turns 77 today and, as has become an annual tradition, the rock legend will lead fans in a “Peace and Love” cheer in honor of his birthday at noon local time in front of the Capitol Records Tower in Los Angeles.
Starr will be joined by a variety of famous friends and collaborators at the event, which is open to the public. Among the many notable musicians expected to attend are Ringo’s brother-n-law, Joe Walsh, The Animals‘ Eric Burdon, Edgar Winter, ex-Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum, E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren, acclaimed session drummer Jim Keltner, producer Don Was, indie-rocker Jenny Lewis, Van Dyke Parks and current All Starr Band members Richard Page and Gregg Bissonette.
Other celebrities who will be on hand for the celebration include director David Lynch, comedians Richard Lewis and Howie Mandell and actors Jeremy Piven, Bud Cort and Ed Begley Jr.
In addition to the “Peace and Love” declaration, the L.A. event also will feature performances of Ringo’s songs by several guest musicians, including Was, Parks, Lewis and respected arranger and keyboardist Michael Bearden.
As usual, Starr also is asking fans around the world, no matter where they are, to say “Peace and Love” at noon local time today, and he also is encouraging people to share positive messages via social media sites using the hash tag #PeaceAndLove.
Meanwhile, various “Peace and Love” events will be held in Fab Four-related sites across the globe, including the Cavern Club in Liverpool, U.K; Abbey Road Studios in London; a park named after John Lennon in Lima, Peru; and Alice’s Tea Cup, a New York City shop nearby the Strawberry Fields memorial in Central Park.
