Courtesy of The ClassicThe Classic West, the first of two bi-coastal music festivals featuring the same star-studded lineup, takes place Saturday and Sunday at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, and event that one of the headliners describes as “hugely exciting).
As previously reported, the event will feature The Eagles, Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers performing Saturday and Fleetwood Mac, Journey and Earth, Wind & Fire playing Sunday.
The Eagles’ Classic West performance will be the band’s first full concert since founding singer/guitarist Glenn Frey‘s death in January 2016. Filling in for Frey will be his son Deacon and country star Vince Gill.
Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh tells ABC Radio that Saturday’s show offers “a great lineup.” Walsh says he’s known Steely Dan since 1971, when his old group The James Gang and the Dan were on the same label. “There’s nobody else like Steely Dan,” Joe maintains.
Walsh also is a big fan of The Doobie Brothers, with whom he once toured for a whole summer.
“They’re great guys,” Joe declares. “And…you gotta love The Doobie Brothers. You can’t not love The Doobie Brothers. It’s impossible.”
Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood tells ABC Radio that The Classic West and its companion festival The Classic East, scheduled for July 29 and 30 at New York’s Citi Field, are the only concerts his band will play in 2017.
“I think it’s hugely exciting,” says Fleetwood, whose group will headline day two of both events. “And we’re all happy that it came together and we’re able to do it. And we’re gonna have a lot of fun doing it.”
Journey’s Neal Schon also is excited about the festivals, noting backstage during his group’s recent Rock & Hall of Fame induction the shows offered “a strong package.”
“It’s gonna be great,” Schon added.
