The 2016 Arkansas-Oklahoma Associated Press Broadcasters Contest Awards Banquet was held Saturday in Pocola, Oklahoma. KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot picked up three awards in two sports categories. This was the first year the two states were combined for the competition. In the past, stations in Arkansas only competed against other stations in their home state. The three awards won by KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot were the most won by any Arkansas radio station.

Brad Haworth won the Best Play-By-Play award for his work in calling the Class 6A state baseball championship game between Mountain Home and Jonesboro. The judges commented “Haworth had clear, consistent play-by-play and good background information between pitches.”

KTLO had the top two finishers in the Best Sports Reporting category. Haworth won the first place award for his story titled “Athletic trainer leaving Mountain Home”, a story about longtime trainer Heather Martin moving from the area. The judges said “it was an interesting interview revealing an inside view of an often-overlooked part of high school sports, and it was a great take on the impact one person can have on a sports community.” Matt Sharp finished second in the category with “Hayden Padgett Memorial Press Box gets lit”, his story about the ceremony to dedicate the new press box at Bomber Stadium.
