ST. LOUIS (AP) – A St. Louis jail inmate has been charged in a beating that left his cellmate hospitalized in critical condition.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 26-year-old Anthony Bell is charged with first-degree assault in the July 15 attack at the St. Louis Justice Center. Court records say his cellmate, 27-year-old Harold Mosley Jr., is in a coma and “may not live.”

Surveillance video showed that Bell was the only person to come and go from the cell before Mosley was found beaten. Police say Bell had a cut on his hand and took two showers after Mosley was hurt.

Mosley was jailed on a pending robbery charge. Bell was jailed on charges alleging that he robbed a man of a bag of clothing and shot him in the stomach.
