The Fulton County Fair is offering special days this week for veterans, seniors and kids with a program and a free lunch.
Wednesday will be Veterans Day at the fair sponsored by FNBC and the Salem VFW Post 9777. The program begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Salem Civic Center and includes recognition for all veterans, a special tribute to Desert Storm/Desert Shield veterans and a special recognition to Marine Corporal Jason Clairday, a Fulton County soldier who was killed in Iraq in December 2004. Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs District Three Veterans Service Officer Elesha Granniss will have an update on veterans’ benefits, and entertainment will be provided by Tom and Brenda Doty. FNBC will provide the free lunch, and the VFW Auxiliary will have Bingo and door prizes in the afternoon. All veterans and their spouses or caregivers will be welcome to attend.
Thursday will be Senior Day hosted by the Bank of Salem and the White River Area Agency on Aging. Activites begin at ten a.m. in the Salem Civic Center as the medical community will have free health screenings, and their will also be games and golf cart tours of the livestock exhibits. Entertainment will be provided by White River Area Agency on Aging employee Erin Parks, and the Bank of Salem will serve a barbecue lunch at noon. Thursday’s event will open to all seniors ages 60-and-older.
North Arkansas Electric Cooperative will sponsor Kids Day in the Civic Center Friday beginning with a magic show at ten a.m. In addition, the Fulton County Farm Bureau will have a program titled “Ag in the Classroom,” the Viola Fire Department will have the fire house on display for tours and a fire safety program, and the Glencoe Fire Department will bring its large fire truck on display for the kids. Salem High School FCCLA members will offer face painting, lunch will be provided by NAEC, and the day will conclude with snow cones from the Salem VFW Auxiliary and tours of the exhibits at the fairgrounds.
