The American Red Cross has received several donations of blood and platelets throughout the early part of July, but they continue to face a critical shortage for the summer. After it issued an emergency call, the Red Cross experienced a 30-percent increase in blood donation appointments through mid-July, but blood products are still being distributed to hospitals as fast as donations are coming in.

Local residents will have several opportunities to donate at the Mountain Home Blood Donation Center on Highland Circle through August 15th. Other donation opportunites in Mountain Home will be at Baxter Healthcare Corporation on Highway 201 North Wednesday morning from five to nine and August 10th from noon to five, at Baxter Regional Medical Center August 9th from eight to six and at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church on Dyer Street August 15th from one to six. The Red Cross will also provide a donation opportunity August 8th from 11 to four at Stone Bank on East Main Street in Mountain View.

In addition, anyone who gives blood or platelets with the Red Cross through August 31st will be emailed a five-dollar Target eGiftCard. To make an appointment or for more information, call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767), or go online to redcross.org.
