Wacha, Gyorko lead Cardinals over Diamondbacks

ST. LOUIS (AP) St. Louis starter Michael Wacha pitched six innings and Jedd Gyorko drove in the lone run with one of his three hits Friday night, leading the Cardinals to a 1-0 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Wacha allowed three hits, but finished strong. He has won five of his last six starts and improved to 7-1 in 12 starts at Busch Stadium.

A line drive by St. Louis first baseman Luke Voit hit Arizona starter Robbie Ray in the head in the second inning. Ray, a left-hander, dropped flat on the mound.

The series continues Saturday as Mike Leake starts for the Cardinals, and the Diamondbacks go with Zack Greinke. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:15. Saturday’s game can be heard on KTLO-AM. The Ameren Pregame Show begins at 5:20.
