Two scholarships have been added at Arkansas State University-Mountain Home with an unusual gift and donations.

With the gift of a reproductive 1929 Mercedes Gazelle and other contributions, Curtis and Priscilla Grant of Monkey Run have established support for non-traditional student scholarships in memory of Carl Velner.

ASUMH officials say the vehicle will be used to generate revenue to support student scholarships. In addition, the Grants have made other non-cash gifts appraised in excess of $50,000. These gifts will also be converted to cash to establish the Carl Velner Non-traditional Student Scholarship.

Both Priscilla and Curtis Grant are residents of the Twin Lakes Area and Mr. Grant is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Velner was also a Navy veteran, both having served with submarine duty.

Dr. Robin Myers, Chancellor of ASUMH, says, “We are very appreciative of the Grants’ generosity and compassion demonstrated through these gifts that will support so many of our students in the future.”

A second donation of $1,000 by PEO Sisterhood Chapter DO has been presented by club officers Caroline Carroll and Cynthia Dalrymple. The donation, which will be added to the ASUMH General Scholarship Fund, is designated for full-time female students seeking any degree from ASU-Mountain Home. The scholarship is open to entering freshmen with a high school diploma from Baxter or Marion counties. Students must have a GPA of 2.75 or higher to be eligible to receive the scholarship.
