Izard County boys tied for lead after day 1 at Cougar Classic

The high school golf season got started Tuesday with the annual Cougar Classic Tournament hosted by Izard County at the Course on Turkey Mountain at Horseshoe Bend.

After the first day, the Izard County and Buffalo Island boys and Highland girls teams have the lead.

In boy’s action, Izard County and Buffalo Island are tied at 253, five shots ahead of Pocahontas. The individual leader is Preston Massey of Pocahontas with a 79. For Izard County, Tyler Pemberton shot 83, Zach Williams had an 84 and Matthew Workman shot 86.

On the girl’s side, Highland shot 318 which puts them 17 shots ahead of Pocahontas. Bailey Circle of Highland is the individual leader after a 95. Izard County’s Mikayla Kish is two shots back.

The tournament continues Wednesday.
