A Mountain Home man, 30-year-old Gary Ronald Hargett, incarcerated in the Baxter County Detention Center is now facing an additional charge of sexual assault in the second degree. Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says the new charge is the result of a joint investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the Arkansas State Police into an incident that was alleged to have occurred during the summer of 2016.

Hargett is alleged to have had sexual contact with a then 15-year old female during the summer of 2016. The incident involved both personal physical sexual contact between the two and nude images being transmitted. The incident was reported to investigators last month.

Following the investigation, the Office of the 14th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney filed the new charge and issued a bench warrant that was served on Wednesday.

Hargett was being held in the Detention Center on a $51,860 bond. He entered a not guilty plea in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday on this charge.
