The Peel Ferry on Bull Shoals Lake reopened at 3:45 Friday afternoon after having been temporarily closed due to a suspicious object. Earlier Friday, Marion County Sheriff Clinton Evans said a local fisherman contacted the Sheriff’s Department about a suspicious object he had hooked and reeled onto shore near the Peel Ferry.

With the opening of the ferry, Sheriff Evans says the Arkansas State Police have rendered the device safe.  The sheriff’s release did not identify the object.

Sheriff Evans says the Arkansas State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal department was contacted to identify the object and dispose of it properly.

Information from https://www.idrivearkansas.com/ website indicated the Peel Ferry on Highway 125 closed in both directions at 7:42 Friday morning.

Jeff Wheeler District Maintenance Engineer for the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department says at approximately 8:00 Friday morning they turned the investigation of the package over to Marion County Sheriff’s Department investigators who are working with Arkansas State Police.
