18 medical students awarded Kerr scholarships

Baxter Regional Medical Center honored its annual recipients of the Dr. Robert L. Kerr Annual Medical Student Scholarship in a ceremony August 3rd at Little Rock. Eighteen medical students from the BRMC market area were recognized and awarded the scholarship in support of tuition for medical or dental school.

Dr. Kerr attended the event with his wife and some of their family. He is a former longtime physician in Mountain Home now retired in Little Rock. He encouraged each of the students in their chosen career in medicine and shared a personal message with them and their families and guests in attendance.

The scholarship recipients were welcomed by BRMC Physician Recruiter Sarah Edwards followed by President and CEO Ron Peterson. BRMC Vice President of Business Development and Baxter Regional Hospital Foundation Executive Director Barney Larry described the Kerr Medical Student Scholarship as a way to honor Dr. Kerr.

This year’s recipients are Asad Akhter, Chase Armistead, Annie Avilez, Jake Bolt, Samantha Connor, Bobie Jo Cooper, Alex Hagaman, Alex Kilgore, Heather Bond Kinder, Caroline Litty, Trevor Meece, Eamon Olwell, Ann Robbins, Eric Sanders, Josh Spore, Levi Watson, Austin Wilkie and Sloane Zimmerman.

Funding is provided by the Baxter Regional Hospital Foundation. To be eligible, students must show proof of enrollment in an accredited medical program leading to a degree of medical doctor, doctor of osteopathy or a dental program leading to a degree of doctor of dental surgery or doctor of dental medicine and demonstrate residency in Baxter, Marion, Ozark, Fulton, Izard, Searcy, Stone or Sharp County.
