The public is being notified of two new sex offenders registering with the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says 22-year-old Bryce Austin Cruse’s address is 709 Elm Street in Gassville.

Cruse was convicted earlier this year while in the military of the offenses of attempted sexual abuse of a child and wrongfully soliciting a Naval Criminal Investigative Service officer to produce and distribute child pornography. Both offenses are violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). Documentation indicates these offenses involved the offender exposing himself and communicating indecent language to a person believed to be a minor.

Sheriff Montgomery says the second sex offender, 77-year-old Charlie Hugh Jones, is residing at 3620 Jordan Road in Norfork.

Jones was convicted in Georgia in 2003 of the offense of child molestation. Other sex crime charges filed at the time of his arrest were later withdrawn (nolle prossed). Sheriff Montgomery says documentation currently available does not offer particulars concerning the circumstances of the child molestation charge.

Neither offender has been assigned a risk level by the Sex Offender Community Notification Assessment(SOCNA).

The offenders are not wanted by law enforcement at this time. This notification is not intended to increase fear; rather it is the sheriff’s belief that an informed public is a safer public. This information cannot be used to threaten, intimidate, or harass registered sex offenders. Citizen abuse will not be tolerated. Such abuse could potentially end law enforcement’s ability to do community notification.
