For those ages 62-and-older considering a senior pass to visit national parks, the cost to purchase one will have a significant increase. The National Park Service announced the price for an America the Beautiful senior lifetime pass will change from ten dollars to $80 beginning August 28th.

Buffalo National River Deputy Superintendent Laura Miller says the $70 jump is in response to a bill passed in December by the United States’ Legislative Branch.

Miller says there is an alternative for anyone who doesn’t want to pay the full price.

Miller says this change will not affect visitors to the Buffalo National River since it doesn’t have an entrance fee.

Anyone interested in a senior pass can go to the visitor center in Tyler Bend, the visitor contact stations at Buffalo Point and Steel Creek or at the headquarters on Walnut Street in Harrison. Passes are also available online at nps.gov.
