The Mountain Home High School football team’s comeback fell short Friday night at Bomber Stadium. The Bombers ended non-conference play by falling to Batesville 31-20.

The Pioneers struck first on a three-yard scoring run by Jaden Ward. Mountain Home tied it up early in the second quarter on a 16-yard pass from Isaac McKay to David Wehmeyer, but less than a minute later, Batesville took the lead back on a 59-yard dash by Cedric Hall. The Pioneers added ten more points before the half was over to go up 17, but it would be a long time before they scored again. The Bombers had two scoring drives in the second half including a 21-play drive going 95 yards and ending with an eight-yard run by McKay. Batesville’s lead was cut to four, but they went back up two possessions nearly three minutes later after Hall ran it in from 12 yards out. Mountain Home’s final possession ended with two straight sacks on McKay, and the Pioneers went on to seal the victory.

Junior Williams led Mountain Home’s rushing attack with 22 carries for 131 yards and a touchdown. McKay ran the ball 20 times for 93 yards and a score, and he was also three-of-seven passing for 30 yards and a score. For Batesville, Hall had 22 arries for 131 yards and two touchdowns.

Batesville improves to 1-2 on the season. Mountain Home falls to 0-3, and they’ll begin the 6A-East next week at Jonesboro.
