A rural Mountain Home man is accused of stealing a pickup truck. According to an incident report from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, 71-year-old David Mooney was booked late Friday evening on a felony count of theft of property and a count of driving while license is suspended. His bond is set at $5,170.

Baxter County dispatch received a call Friday afternoon from another rural Mountain Home resident advising someone took his truck. Sergeant Robert Recktenwald went to the residence on Spring Lake Drive where he was advised the alleged victim’s truck was sitting in his driveway, and sometime between 4:00 and 5:30, someone had taken it. Just after seven p.m., a call came in to dispatch from Mooney’s son saying his father arrived at his aunt’s house in a brown truck that didn’t belong to him, and the license plate was a match of the missing vehicle.

Later that evening, Sergeant Recktenwald was on routine patrol when he noticed a tan-colored truck matching the description of the stolen vehicle pulling into the convenience store at Highways 62B and 5 North. The officer turned around and found the truck in a parking space, and dispatch confirmed the license plate number matched that of the missing vehicle. After the man exited the vehicle, Sergeant Recktenwald approached him, called him Mr. Mooney and asked how long he owned the truck. The officer then informed him the truck was reported stolen and placed Mooney into custody.

Mooney is expected to appear in Baxter County District Court Thursday.
