Buffalo National River was selected to receive a 2017 field trip grant from the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks. The “Day by the Buffalo” program gives local students the opportunity to visit Buffalo National River for curriculum-based field trips and outdoor learning experiences.

This grant, part of the Foundation’s Open OutDoors for Kids program <http://www.nationalparks.org/ook/about>, supports Every Kid in a Park Every Kid in a Park.

The Day by the Buffalo program fosters resource stewardship and creates a sense of wonder among students in Arkansas while solidifying academic concepts in an experiential, field-based setting at Buffalo National River. Day by the Buffalo field trips will cover a range of topics including Ozark settlement history, karst geology, hydrology, and forest and aquatic ecology.

Ozarks Unlimited Resource Educational Service Cooperative (O.U.R.), which serves 16 school districts across northern Arkansas, will receive the grant funds in order to reimburse its school districts’ travel expenses to and from Buffalo National River. The grant will also be used for field trip supplies and classroom materials. Teachers who are interested in scheduling a Day by the Buffalo field trip can contact mailto:buff_daybybuffalo@nps.gov.
