A routine roadside assistance check by a Baxter County Sheriff’s Deputy early Tuesday morning led to the arrest of 31-year-old-Zachary Roy Bales, of Mountain Home, and 47-year-old Kevin Douglas Quinton, of Salem, on felony drug charges. Bales is being held on a $10,000 bond and Quinton’s bond is set at $2,500.According to a police narrative, a deputy was on routine patrol when he noticed a vehicle pull out of Twin Lakes Mobile Home Park and go north on Highway 5. The vehicle then made a sudden stop and pulled over to the side of the road with its flashers on. Both the driver and the passenger jumped out of the vehicle with a flashlight shining toward the ground.

The deputy says he turned on his non-emergency lights and pulled up to assist. At that time the pair jumped back into the vehicle, appearing nervous. When the officer asked what was wrong Bales allegedly began to shake and stutter, making the officer suspicious. He gave the officer wrong information concerning his drivers license and was placed under arrest.

Quinton did not have a drivers license so the vehicle was towed. A search of the vehicle, prior to the towing, found scales with a white residue, just under a gram of suspected methamphetamine, two glass pipes and a .25 caliber pistol on the driver’s side.

On the passenger side the deputy found less than half of a gram of suspected methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana and a pipe with suspected marijuana residue.

Bales was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine or cocaine with the purpose to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by certain persons.

Quinton was charged with felony and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both are scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court.
