A Marion County woman, 26-year-old Courtney Rovinsky of Yellville, has been sentenced to probation for five years in connection with an incident in June when she was arrested for forcing a second woman to drive a vehicle at gunpoint until it overheated on a Marion County road.

Rovinksy appeared before Marion County Circuit Judge John Putman Wednesday and entered a no contest plea to a felony charge of terroristic threatening.

At the time of the incident, Marion County Sheriff Clinton Evans said deputies responded to a suspicious activity on County Road 6001 possibly involving a firearm. Deputies made contact with a white sedan and spoke with the two female occupants. Deputies then discovered a small child in a car seat in the back of the vehicle. After further investigation, it was discovered a female was forced to drive the car at gunpoint until it overheated. A 9 mm pistol was located in Rovinsky’s belongings, along with a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The child was unharmed and released into the custody of the Department of Human Services.

Under the negotiated plea agreement, Rovinsky was ordered to undergo screenings for anger management and drug/alcohol abuse and comply with the recommendations of those screenings. She was also ordered to have no contact with the victims.

The felony charge of endangering the welfare of a minor and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed.

The agreement also includes an Act 346 provision, meaning if Rovinsky remains out of trouble during her probation period, she may petition the court to have her record sealed.
