LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP)   Arkansas State Police are investigating a fatal collision involving a Maumelle police officer.

Maumelle Police Capt. Jim Hansard says Officer Christopher Cruse was traveling north on Arkansas Highway 100 while responding to a call for service about 1 a.m. Saturday when he struck a jeep traveling south in the northbound lanes.

Little Rock television station KATV reports that the driver of the jeep, identified as 22-year old Anthony Walker of Maumelle, was killed and two other people in the jeep were injured. Officer Cruse sustained injuries to both legs.

Authorities say the investigation by Arkansas State Police is in the preliminary stage.
