FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) Fort Smith police have arrested a man on a domestic battery complaint after his 2-year-old son died at a hospital from what authorities called “suspicious injuries.”
Police took 32-year-old Terrell Powell into custody Saturday after child was brought to the emergency room with bleeding of the brain and facial injuries. The child later died.
Investigators said Powell reported his son had been crying and having trouble sleeping, and told officers the child appeared lethargic and wasn’t breathing normally.
Police said instead of immediately calling for help, Powell carried the child around the house and waited for his wife to get back from working a night shift before an ambulance was called.
Powell is being held without bond. Jail records didn’t show whether he had an attorney.
