Simmons says it will expand NW Arkansas poultry operation

(AP) – Simmons Prepared Foods plans to expand operations
near Decatur in northwestern Arkansas and add about 1,500 jobs by 2022.Gov. Asa Hutchinson and Simmons Foods CEO Todd Simmons announced the expansion Wednesday at an event in Siloam Springs. The company will invest $300 million in the facility and enter new contracts with area poultry farmers.

When operations begin in 2019, it will produce fresh and frozen chicken for restaurants and retail outlets.

Simmons this summer held a ribbon-cutting for a pet food ingredient plant.

Simmons has a feed mill, hatchery, business office and processing facility in the Decatur area. Some processing will move from the existing facility to the new one once it is open.

Simmons Prepared Foods is based in Siloam Springs. It employs about 3,700 people in Arkansas.
