Inmate faces manslaughter charge in Arkansas prison death

(AP) _ An Arkansas prosecutor says an inmate will be charged with manslaughter in the death of another prisoner during an incident that wasn’t reported to state police for nearly a week.John Demoret died nearly two weeks after a July 28 assault at the Tucker Unit, about 30 miles (50 kilometers) southeast of Little Rock. Prosecutor Kyle Hunter said Monday that another inmate will be charged later in the day.

Demoret’s death was among several violent incidents at Arkansas prisons since July, including two last week.

Hunter says an affidavit names 24-year-old James Buyard, who is serving five years on theft and drug charges in Independence County. The prosecutor says Buyard doesn’t have a lawyer. His initial court appearance is in November.

Demoret was 25 when he died. He was serving 10 years for manslaughter.
